'Rise and Shine' Sheep Milking Experience
Join us for a hands on sheep milking experience
Our East Friesian dairy sheep are hand milked daily around sunrise. In this experience you will share in our knowledge of the science and the art of milking sheep and pandering to their whims.
Hear their individual stories, feed them their gourmet breakfast, bottle feed lambs and experience the morning routine of the farm.
We use our milk to make artisan cheeses - see below for details of cheesemaking classes

See inside our working farm
We can customise our farm tours to match your interests. Simply take a tour of a working farm and meet the friendly animals or learn more about a particular topic – growing food, raising animals/ meat, dairy, passive solar design, permaculture, or self sufficiency. If you have any other particular interest please let us know.
Farm tours are usually about 1 hour.
$25 per person (children $10). Minimum $50.
Farm tours are included if you are staying at the farmstay
Activities on the farm
Learn to make simple cheeses at home
Cheesemaking is easy and with not much in the way of special ingredients or equipment you can make yummy cheeses in your own kitchen.
Lyndal has been making goat and sheep cheeses for 5 years and makes over 20 types of cheese.
Learn to make Halloumi, ricotta and queso blanco in a 3-4 hour morning class. These are very versatile cheeses and also teach you most of the skills you need to tackle many basic cheese recipes.
$65 per person, min $90

Let us share our local knowledge of the wonderful vineyards in our area
Waipara region makes some excellent wines and has many wineries with cellar doors open to the public. We can offer a 2 hour tour to 3 or 4 local wineries customised to your level of knowledge and interest. An introductory tour for those with limited wine experience to a comparitive varietals tour for the conniseur.
$60 per person, minimum 2 people
If you are staying on the farm you can purchase a bottle to have with your evening meal
Staying on our farm?
If you are staying on the farm you may be able to participate in some of the following activities. Some are seasonal so may not be available, however if you have a particular interest please let us know.
Milking goats and sheep
Bottle feed pet lambs or goat kids
Taking goats walking to eat and climb willow trees
Collecting eggs and feeding chickens
Meet and feed our pigs
Harvest or planting of vegetables
Harvest herbs for drying to make herbal teas
Relax in the hammock under a tree and read a book
Soak in the Jacuzzi
Have a quiet game of petanque in the sheltered farm courtyard
Play with baby goats
Go for a cycle ride to the beach
Walk to the top of the road for a lovely view of the coast
Walk down the local river bed – a nice loop walk
